When you’re caught up in the hustle of working for yourself, every day is about every moment as profitable as possible. You work out a carefully crafted to-do list, schedule out every single minute, and then spend time reflecting on how you can do it better next. You make maximization of time a focus because if you don’t make every minute count, you might not be able to keep the roof over your head.
With all of this running around and worrying about the bottom line, it can be easy to get caught up in spending your days thinking about the next dollar. In the meantime, are you missing out on the things that can bring you real peace and happiness? How do you learn to live in the moment when you’re so caught up in tomorrow?
First off, you gotta figure out what's the most valuable thing in your life. Then ask yourself how much time you're going to devote to it. We live in a world where we have to work hard just to survive. The years go by, and so many of us constantly put those important things on hold. Whether it’s dreams we have that we want to pursue, talents to develop, or time spent with those we love, one day, we will no longer have the opportunity to pursue those efforts.
This is why you need to make a choice. You have to ask yourself what the most important thing in your life is, and then you HAVE TO devote energy whatever that is. Don't try to put things off until tomorrow; many people never get that chance, because sometimes tomorrow doesn’t come.
Recently, I lost a friend. He was a coach in the real estate industry and he was a brilliant man. He was passionate about his work and he had an excellent reputation as a leader. He knew what was important: family, friends and inner peace. He demonstrated the importance of these things, and his devotion to them, through his work and the way he conducted himself. He truly knew how to decide what was most important, and give it the attention it deserved in the moment. He had a loving family he was dedicated to, he was surrounded by great friends, he was at peace, and he loved what he did for work. This is balance, this is what life is intended to be like.
Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life. Be with yourself, take some time to be with your family because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
